Local Based Classrooms
The Washtenaw Intermediate School District (WISD) provides diverse educational opportunities through its Local-Based Classrooms, which are designed to serve students with a wide range of needs. These classrooms aim to support students who require specialized instruction in a smaller, more personalized setting. The program is tailored for students with disabilities or those who need extra support to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
Each local-based classroom is situated within schools across Washtenaw County, ensuring students receive individualized attention within a community-based environment. The classrooms serve students from various grade levels, including elementary, middle, and high school, offering a continuum of services that align with each student's unique needs.
Key features of WISD’s Local-Based Classrooms include:
Individualized Instruction: Students receive personalized instruction based on their specific learning profiles and goals.
Inclusive Environment: The classrooms encourage social interaction with peers and participation in general education activities whenever possible.
Skilled Support Staff: Special education teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers work closely with students to support their academic, behavioral, and social development.
Focus on Life Skills: In addition to academic instruction, students have the opportunity to develop life skills, including communication, independence, and social interaction.
The Local-Based Classrooms within the Washtenaw Intermediate School District strive to create an inclusive, supportive, and nurturing environment that empowers students to achieve their full potential, preparing them for success in both their educational journey and in life beyond the classroom.
